How Media Failed Women in 2013

I like how this video shows the progress women have been able to make so far, but also how much work still needs to be done, especially in the media.

Some of the things in this video still have me fuming!

  1. As much as we'd like to think that we've come along way in regard to gender equality, we really haven't. Women are still often portrayed as sexual objects in ad campaigns, as proved by this video.

It's also interesting to note that whenever a female politician is being criticized in the media, it's typically focused on her looks or mannerisms (as Hillary Clinton was criticized in the video above). These qualities are exaggerated and influence how well people think that woman can lead. When a male politician is criticized in the media, for example for a sexual indiscretion, his ability to lead isn't questioned as much.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this. I think I get so desensitized to these disgusting occurrences, and it takes a video like this to really wake me up again!
