The Writing Proficiency Exam... I had heard horror stories. Friends who didn't pass, friends who didn't care, friends who absolutely loathed their articles filled my ears with certainty: the WPE will suck.

I was wrong. I was one of the lucky ones.

A Tuesday evening, the night before my exam, I began reading the mandatory article. It was titled The Pros and Cons of Abandoning the Word 'Feminist.' I wasn't sure what to expect. "Hopefully it will be interesting, at least," I thought. And interesting it was.

I couldn't put the article down! The author, Abagail Rine, was so genuine and out of the ordinary. She is a strong feminist, but she's almost unsure if she wants the title. She also questions why there must be a title, and is the title the problem.

Take a look. You might enjoy it even more than I did, seeing as how you're not reading it for the WPE.

  1. There is always a level of difference in appreciation for articles, etc. we must read vs. those we choose to read. I wonder why that is.
