Itsy Bitsy Bikinis

One of my friends posted this video on Facebook about swimsuit bikinis in today's culture and their effect on "empowering women". The woman giving the presentation is a swimsuit designer that believes "modest is hottest" and uses scientific findings to back up her viewpoint. The video is hosted on a Christian website, but you do not have to be a Christian to see the relevancy behind her message to the MissInterpretation video we just watched in class. It raises the question, are women really empowering themselves if it leads to more objectification by others? We just learned about how objectification has serious consequences for both women and men in our society. Can something as trivial to some people as what they wear on the beach really make a difference? I think so.

  1. I have seen this video before and really liked it. The video brings to light how women can be objectified through their clothing. Sometimes I think that women believe that because they are allowed to wear skimpy bikinis and clothes, they are more powerful than before. In a way, I think that by focusing on what we wear instead of who we are, women are allowing themselves to be objectified without even realizing it.
