Wow. I logged on to youTube to watch a video for another class, and I was bombarded with this commercial at he the beginning and end of the video. A female Olympian athlete was chosen for a "Bounty" that featured a girl making messes, and her mom using "Bounty" to save the day.
It seems to convey the message that girls should worry about household messes and how to clean them up. Seems very typical of the gender roles that society imposes, and thusly I found it to have a sexist overtone that was relevant to the discussions on this board and in class.
Even if this athlete had a single mother ( I don't know), this commercial still used a pair female relatives instead of any male athlete and his father, or female and her father. This video lends itself to criticism, seems especially ill timed. I wonder how the Communists in Sochi would interpret this: As a woman betraying her own gender for personal capitial gains?
