Sexual Assault in the Military Reform

http://blogs.rollcall.com/wgdb/senators-prepare-for-military-sexual-assault-debate/

I remember watching the female senators debate this topic when I was an intern on Capitol hill last semester. They would regularly hold dueling press conferences as they tried to get their legislation and amendments into the National Defense Authorization Act. I personally am solidly behind Senator Gillibrand's proposal, because Senator McCaskill's bill does not go far enough and offers too much discretion to those who are already part of the problem. This is just another case where women are taking the lead on important issues that men refuse to take up. It is also interesting that this topic is one that has brought the entire women's caucus together in a bipartisan fashion, as does many issues in the United States Senate (the government shutdown also brought the "women's caucus" together).
