| Potential Indiana Secretary of State Candidate Beth White (D) |
Rutgers
University’s Center for American Women and Politics at the Eagleton Institute of Politics offers a list of potential
women candidates for congressional and statewide offices for the 2014
elections.
The site, http://www.cawp.rutgers.edu/fast_facts/elections/candidates_2014.php,
offers the list of names according to state and provides the office for which
they are running, their district, party, general seat, filing date, and primary
date.
You can click on any of the highlighted
names and be directed to their personal site in order to find out more information
about the what issues they are interested in, some things they have
accomplished while working in government or simply their own community, and
what they intend to do if elected for their office in which they are running.
I think this is a great tool for becoming a more informed
voter and provides information about what U.S. women are doing in the
government today. For example, Beth
White is a Democrat currently serving as the Marion County Clerk and intends on
running for Indiana Secretary of State. On White’s
personal website, http://bethwhite.org/2013/11/04/get-2-vote/,
she states “Our state’s history is steeped in values like working hard,
telling the truth and doing right by our friends, family and neighbors – values
I like to call Hoosier common sense. These are the values I want to bring to
Indianapolis as your next Secretary of State.”
You may not necessarily like White as a candidate or side
with her on some issues, but the important part is just becoming more informed about
what is going on in your state government and who is or trying to fill those important
government seats. I like that the Rutgers’ site is pretty basic and allows you
to search and find out information easily.
I encourage you to check it out and
let me know what you think.
