Sex is not an economy and your virginity is not a commodity

I can't tell you how many times I've talked about virginity with my family and friends or how often I've seen women's virtues talked about like they're a precious commodity- sold to particular bidders and never retrieved again. I, along with everyone reading this, have been pressured to retain my virginity- but not for too long, to lose it- but not too soon, to loosen up, to act more properly ("You're a lady, for goodness sake. Act like one."); we've been bombarded by the rules of a game we can't possibly win.

The pseudo-economic speak of the video in this article really highlighted for me how absurd our treatment of sex is in our country.

Personally, my views on sex can be summed up thusly: If everyone is a consenting adult and everything is done safely- I don't care what you do or who you do it with. It is none of my business what you do or whom you do it with.

Anyway, I thought the article did a really good job of tearing that idiotic video apart one piece at a time.

  1. I really enjoy the video. It spoke of a serious topic but added some lightness to keep the audience watching. I just had a similar conversation about this with a close friend the other night. Their are so many mixed signals about the social norm that it is extremely important to allow future generations to know that whatever they may decide, it is okay. They can pick what makes them comfortable with their own bodies.
