This two-minute scene from ABC's Scandal received a significant amount of attention when it aired earlier this season. In it, actress Lisa Kudrow plays a former soldier, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, testing the national political waters, running for the Democrat nomination for president. What she says in her blazing speech hit a lot of nerves about media bias when it comes to female candidates.
What do you think? Is there validity in what she says?

I totally agree with her entire speech, and I don't think it was just something drummed up by the script writers; it is based completely in reality. Hell- the same thing happened to Hillary Clinton. She was accused repeatedly of being 'unfeminine' or 'too feminine' throughout her years in the political spotlight. This feeling of gender bias deeply permeates our political sphere. Great video, by the way. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI loved this video so much! I know that what she is speaking about is true, because I have encountered it in my own family who question if I am capable to have a career in political science since I am a woman. I think that this is one of the first cases of a show directly confronts sexism in politics. Thank you for posting this video. Scandal now has a new viewer!
ReplyDeleteI love this show so much! I thought that what she said was completely right. I am glad that Scandal made this scene and did not have some response that would have just let her continue to be stepped on because she is a woman. It is amazing that not only is this happening on the show, but it is reality of what happens to women when they try to take a high ranking position.
