The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has come under fire
for his lack of female representation in government. The article provides
various different statistics that demonstrates this unequal representation. Of
114 Privy Councilors only 14% have been women and the same goes for seats on
Cabinet committee’s as 14% are also women. The Economic Affairs committee,
which is one of the most important committee’s within government, only has one
woman. The cabinet composed of 26 offices lack any female representation at the
chairmen (chairwomen) or the deputy chairmen (chairwomen) levels. The Prime
Minister, David Cameron, has created 85 policy “tsars” since 2010, thirteen of
which are women, 15% of the total. The Labour party is using this lack of female
representation as electoral leverage, asserting that they are committed to
increasing the representation of women in 2015. These percentages display at
least some level of unequal representation in government for the female population.
