On Sexism in Ads

I was recently fumbling around Tumblr when I stumbled across this (warning for partial nudity). I think the pictures are an interesting commentary on how women are represented in the media. It seems interesting to me how switching the roles really highlights the power play/dominance themes present in media like this. What do y'all think?

  1. These pictures made me super uncomfortable because I felt so bad for the man. I felt how degrading these images are. I'm not sure it would have affected me as clearly had it been a woman because I'm desensitized, which is SO sad.

I think the photos would be a little more effective when better explained or placed next to similar images where a woman is degraded to show that comparison. I don't know that the message is extremely clear. Concerning what the author wrote: I do not believe stooping to one level is the appropriate method of resolution. Society degrading women should not be addressed with a group degrading men, especially if we're striving for equality. That cannot be accomplished by stepping on men to bring women up.

  3. Wow! This really shows how degrading advertisements are to women. This article is totally right about how there would be a huge uproar if men were viewed like this. My boyfriend has glanced over at my computer screen and said, "woah. what in the world are you looking at?" If it would have been a girl like that, then nobody would be surprised. I also like how the woman looks like she is in charge.
