Nintendo recently launched an ad campaign based in Europe in an effort to get young ladies to become videogamers.   The campaign includes a YouTube channel called "Nintendo girls club".
This publicity effort has been shunned by some as being a method to further implement gender roles and uphold sexist beliefs.
“Many video game companies want to cater to women, but they don’t know how,” says one commentator interviewed for the article.

  1. I watched the first video on the Nintendo Girls Club YouTube channel and while I agree that the video games shown are possibly the girliest games ever, I think the channel is clearly geared toward young girls. So I wouldn't expect them to show clips from shooter games or anything like that.
But as someone who grew up playing video games (thanks to my older brother) and had a richer childhood because of it, I think it's important to show young girls that the gaming world is not just for men.
