While watching the Heat whoop on the Pacers, I saw a
commercial for DoSomething.org.
“Because apathy sucks” is the slogan they use to encourage teenagers
and young adults to get involved in something.
From animals to homelessness and bullying to the environment, there are
tons of great campaigns to learn about.
It literally takes one minute to sign up at no cost.
Once you select something or multiple things you are
interested in, the site offers simple ideas that you can enact to
participate. For example, collecting
peanut butter for your local food bank is one simple solution to a big problem. The site explains that “In 2012, 49 million
people lived in households without enough food to eat.” They recommend peanut butter for its nutritional
value and the amount of time it lasts.
They explain how to get others involved, and if you participate and snap
a picture of it, you can enter yourself in a drawing for a $7500 scholarship.
In the four simple steps the site offers-know, plan, do,
prove it- you’ve done something simple but great to impact your world. I think
this is a really cool concept for getting young people involved in real world
problems and solving them. I encourage everyone to check it out.
